Wilkinson Eyewear Studio are pleased to announce that we are hiring a dispensing optician. We are also offering an opportunity to a motivated and hardworking individual to train as a dispensing optician.

Our team currently includes dispensing opticians, optometrists, one trainee DO and receptionists. At Wilkinson Eyewear Studio we value the experience and knowledge of qualified professionals and we insist on all of our dispensing staff being qualified. This means the successful applicant will be working with a team of highly skilled individuals with an expansive knowledge across dispensing and optometry. As a practice, we pride ourselves both on the outstanding spectacle collections we offer as well as our clinical excellence. Our dispensing opticians all enjoy a friendly social work community with trips to Silmo in Paris and other optical events. There are four practices within the group: Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Bromley and Edney and Edney in Tunbridge Wells. The positions will be based primarily in the Tonbridge & Sevenoaks practices, though it may require occasional days in the other locations.



We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic dispensing optician with a keen interest in high end frame styling. We expect our dispensing opticians to have a good understanding of lenses and to be proficient in trouble shooting with any issues patients may have with their spectacles.

The role will entail:

  • Dispensing spectacles

  • Focimetry and advising patients

  • Completing collection appointments

  • Repairs

  • Actively engaging with and greeting patients

  • Administrative tasks such as diary management and banking

  • Performing OCT scans


Essential requirements:

  • Qualified as a dispensing optician

  • GOC registration and indemnity insurance

  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work independently


Preferable criteria:

  • Experience within high end independent practice

  • Experience with PMS similar to Optix/i-Clarity

  • Experience performing OCT scans



We are also looking to hire an individual who may or may not have any relevant experience in the optical industry. Should the applicant be successful, they will be offered the opportunity to train as a dispensing optician, a respected and enjoyable profession. The three year training programme is completed part time, involving one day per week at college and four days in the practice where the trainee will gain valuable experience to aid their studies, supervised by qualified dispensing opticians and optometrists.

Essential requirements:

  • 5 GCSEs grade A-C, including english and mathematics (or equivalent)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A highly motivated work ethic

  • Friendly telephone demeanour and good conversation skills

  • A willingness to learn and ask questions


Preferable criteria:

  • Experience in either the optical, retail or hospitality industries

  • A-level qualifications

  • Proficiency with computers
